WOMAN'S LIFE SAVED

PLUCKY TRAFFIC OFFICER APPROACHING FIRE ENGINE Prompt and plucky action by a traffic officer, Mr. G. MacrXauglitan, in saving a woman's life at the corner of Queen Street and Wolloslcy Street on July 29 was brought to the attention of the City Council last night by the Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis. Through information received from onlookers, said Sir Ernest, it had been discovered that Mr. MacNaughtan had rushed across the street and swung the woman back over tlie tram lines after she had failed to hear the approach of a fire engine travelling at top speed along Queen Street. When the officer acted the. lire engine was almost at the point where the woman had been.

Sir Ernest said ho had commended the traffic, officer for his presence of mind and his plucky action. Mr. MacNaughtan had not reported the incident and it would have escaped notice had not an onlooker reported it The council decided to convey to Mr. MacXaughtan its very warm appreciation of his action and to place a record of it in the council's minutes. Sir Ernest said it was also being brought to the notice of the Royal Humane Society.
