PORT OF AUCKLAND HARBOUR HOURS EXTENDED USE OF EASTERN ENTRANCES Hours sot for the use of the eastern entrances to the Auckland Harbour have been extended by half an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening by the naval authorities. The three entrances affected arc the Motuihi and Brown's Island channels and the Tamaki passage, and from today these passages may ho used from 5.30 a.m., instead of 6 a.m., to 7 p.m., instead of 6 p.m. It is still necessary to obtain a permit to use these entrances in daylight and patrols will stox> all vessels in prohibited hours." The Union Company's steamer Waipiata left Oamnru on Wednesday afternoon for Timaru and sailed from Timaru for Lyttelton last night. Tho Union Company's motor-shin Waiana, which was scheduled to sail for Wellington and South Island ports last evening, has been delayed ajid will not sail until noon to-day. A. G Frankham, Limited's, motor-vessel Hokianga, which was scheduled to sail for Hokianga from Onohunga last evening, was delayed and will sail at eight o clock this morning. The' Northern Company's motor-vessel Hau turn arrived at Onehunga yesterday morning from Picton. Sho is expected to 6ail at noon to-morrow for .New unci -Wanganui. FOOD FOII GERMAN SniP The M.A.N.Z. Lino motor-ship Port Halifax on her arrival at Boston from Auckland on September 27 moored near tho German steamer Paulino Friedrich, which had put into port at the outbreak of war to avoid capture. Learning that the German crow were short of food, the master of the Port Halifax Captain A. A. Cooper, remarked: "Germans or not, they have to cat."
