CHINESE ASSAULTED

INTRUDER IN A WHARE ESCAPE MADE AFTER CHASE Hidden behind the door of a wharo in Wharf Road, Panmure, yesterday afternoon, a man sprang out when a middle-aged Chinese, Charlie Ah Him. entered and hit him on the head with a. shoo, without inflicting serious injury. The intruder escaped, taking with him only a packet of cigarettes belonging to the Chinese. He was last seen running alpng the bank of the Tamaki River in the direction of Point England, with three of Ah Him's countrymen in hot pursuit. From the disordered condition of the wliarc it appeared the man had been searching for money while Ah Him was working in the market gardens near by. Detective Grace made exhaustive inquiries in the neighbourhood last night.
