ORAKEI LAND CLAIMS

MAORI MEETING TO-MORROW CENTENNIAL PARTICIPATION Tho Orakei land claims and the question of Maori participation in tho centennial celebrations in Auckland will bo discussed at a meeting of Maoris living in the metropolitan area, which will be held at tho Orakei settlement to-morrow. Tho meeting has been called by Mr. P. K. Paikea, M.P. for Northern Maori. In connection with tho land claims, a number of proposals will bo placed before tho acting-Minister of Native Affairs; the Hon. H. G. 11. Mason, who will be present. The meeting will also discuss what part, if any, Maoris living in tho city will take in the centennial celebrations. As there aro about 5000 Maoris living in tho metropolitan area it is thought that an attendance of at least 1000 is likely. Tho meeting will begin at 11 a.m. and will probably last until tho evening. Special arrangements are being made to provide meals for those attending.
