SENIOII CHAMPIONSHIP CONTINUATION OF MATCHES SOUTHERN TOUR ABANDONED An appeal to continue playing matches in the senior grade championship was made by a strong deputation Irom the Clubs Ofiieers' Association which waited on the Auckland Rugby League last evening. It was pointed out by the deputation that there was keen competition for second place in the senior grade, and it was the wish of the players to contest the position, which was still in doubt. The chairman, Mr. G. Grey Campbell, agreed with the points raised and it was decided to approve of the request, and to postpone the opening of the Roopc Rooster competition until next Saturday week. Mr. Campbell reported that negotiations were in train with the New South Wales J.eague to invite the champion Sydney club team to visit Auckland at the conclusion of the Sydney competition. The proposal to send an Auckland representative team on a South Island tour was abandoned. The discussion was taken in committee, and Mr. Campbell stated later 'that it was regrettahlo a suitable team could not be got together. It was decided to invite a Wellington . team to play a match at Carlaw Park at a later date in the season. The question of the powers of a referee in calling off a match at Grey Lynn Park, which lie considered unfit to play on, was discussed for some time. Mr. E. Chapman, chairman of the junior board, said a rule was passed to the effect that, where the captains of tho two teams agreed, a match should be played. It was unfortunate, if the referees stood firmly by thp laws of the game, that matches could bo held up indefinitely, and the junior competitions would never be finished in a rainy season. Mr. Campbell said the referees wer« within their rights to consider the state of the grounds, but he expressed the opinion that common sense judgment should he used in the matter if the captains agreed that the conditions warranted play being continued. It was eventually agreed to take tho matter up with tho Referees' Association for a more satisfactory arrangement. The right of the Richmond Club reserve grade team in playing a recognised senior grade player in a recent match was challenged by the Ponsonby Club. It was pointed out that the game was considered a final, and that the player in question was not eligible, he having played five matches in the higher grade. It was resolved to inform the Ponsonby Club that the game was not a final, and the status of the player was therefore in order. The South Auckland League wrote expressing appreciation for the hospitality extended its representative team on its recent visit, and for the receipt of a substantial cheque as its share of the gate receipts. A resolution of condolence was passed with Mr. J. B. Donald, the patron, in the death of his mother-in-law, Mrs. Porter.

The following transfers were approved:— J. Hapi (Cityj, IS. Watene (Newton), to Manukau.
