; DISCUSSI ON ON , LAWS 'v' • PLAY-THE-BALL RULE Following a discussion on interpretations of tho rules at last night's meeting of the Auckland Rugby Leaguo Referees' Association, Mr. G. McCowatt stated that, as the result of the recent circular issued by the New- Zealand Referees' Association, there was a marked..improvement in play-the-ball observance. 'Mr. A. C. Gallagher, a member of the appointment board, srtid that somo players were interpreting the dropping of tho ball too literally and from above knee liigh. This tended : to tempt the opposing players to kick too,soon and take an umluo advantage. Tho resignations of Messrs. E. T. Mincham, who intends to take on junior coaching, and u\.
