SNOW INCHES-DEEP AT INVERCARGILL FOR SOUTHLAND-MAN AW ATU RUGBY MATCH Conditions remarkable in the history of Ranfurly Shield Rugby prevailed at Invercargill for Saturday's match. Four inches*of snow lay on the ground in the morning and a further two inches fell before the game began. Attempts to clear the field were abandoned. Southland won by I 7 points to 3 in a game devoid of concerted movements. Upper: Purdue, Southland halfback, runs with the ball as Little (left) slips, and Edlin comes across to tackle. Lower: Sutherland, Southland threequarter, scoring his second try.
