SERVICES IN WARD
SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES RESUMPTION APPROVED BOARD DEFINES CONDITIONS The re-establishment of Sunday school activities in a children's ward subject to certain conditions was recommended by the medical superintendent, Dr. J. W. Craven,- and the lady superintendent, Miss E, M. Nutsey, in a report to the Auckland Hospital Board last niglit. Some months ago thp board decided to eliminate the services, ,but at a meeting last month a request for reconsideration of the previous resolution was received, the question then being referred to the executive officers for report. "We wish it to be clearly understood that, while we heartily approve of Sunday schools in general, our chief concern is the welfare of the boys in the ward," the report stated. It was recommended that the school should be allowed only if it were under the control of some recognised body, as the Y.M.C.A., and if it were purely undenominational and limited to 20 minutes at each end of the ward. • It was recommended that the sister in charge of the ward should indicate if the service was not desirable on account of seriously ill patients who would suffer from disturbance or noise or if the ward was closed for any other cause. The time of the service should be determined by the medical superintendent in order noti to interfere with visitors or treatments.
,The report was subject to a final qualification that the services should be the subject of any further recommendation Dr. Craven and Miss Nutsey might wish to make to tho board with regard to their continuance. Following the adoption of the report, Jlr. J. V. MacKy .said tbe Y.M.C.A. would be prepared to undertake the work, and he did not think there would be any cause for trouble.
