OTAHUHU BOROUGH
SHARE OF PETROL TAX RATING OF SPORTS LANDS Advice that Otnhnhu borough had been scheduled to participate in the annual allocation of the petrol tax fund as from July 1 was received last night at the borough council meeting. The council made application for inclusion under the allocation which is made among boroughs and cities with a population exceeding 6000. The Commissioner of Transport stated bv letter that the Government Statistician had certified that the borough now had the requisite population. The Mayor, Mr. C. R. Potrie, M.P., said the decision marked the end of a long fight for recognition of tin? borough's claim, it would mean that the council would receive approximately £I6OO annually. The Mayor said that as member for the district he had been advised that tlie council's petition to Parliament praying for an amendment of the Land Valuation Act in respect of the rating of sports lands would be brought before the committee of the House of Representatives on Wednesday morning. He had since received requests from the Auckland Golf Club, in respect of wliose property the council's petition was based, and other organisations that he consent to an adjournment of the bearing. As the district member lie would leave the council to make its own decision. After discussion, in which it was pointed out that the petition had been lodged for about two months and tho text of it was published over five weeks ago, it was decided to proceed with | the council's representations as ar- I ranged.
