INTERVIEWS IN AUCKLAND SHORT-SERVICE COMMISSIONS MANY APPLICATIONS RECEIVED 1 __ " * - Candidates for_ short-service commissions in 'the New Zealand Regulars Forces were interviewed in Auckland*, yesterday bv Colonel It. Miles, and Colonel 0. H. Mead, of Army Headquarters, Wellington. Colopiel Miles and Colonel Mead arrived from the south by train yesterday morning. Applications were recently invited throughout New Zealand from officers with not less _ than three years' com- 1 missioned service to fill 18 vacancies in the Regular Forces. A large number of applications has been received, and it is the task of Colonel Miles and Colonel Mead to make a selection. *J; Candidates must be physically fit and aged not less than 21 years or more than 35 years,, except in _ cases of officers who have had active service experience, or who have served as commissioned officers in a regular unit or corps. The period bf appointment . will be for not less than 18 months or more than 4§ years. The first- sis months' service will on probation. Rank on appointment w?lll be governed by military qualifications, experience and record of service. Colonel Miles and Colonel Mead.will return to Wellington by train to-night.
