PASSENGER ASSAULTED YOUNG LABOURER FINED Arising from nn incident in a Pnkekohe bus at the Auckland bus depot on Juno 7, Arthur Caleb Ellis, labourer, aged 23 (Mr. McCarthy), appeared before Mr. J. Morling, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday, charged with using obscene language and assaulting David Mehaffy. Ho pleaded guilty. Sub-Inspector Pender said there were about a dozen passengers in the bus, including women and children, when accused and a companion, both intoxicated, were spoken to by complainant regarding their language. Accused then struck him on the mouth. Counsel pointed out that accused's previous record was unblemished, and liquor was responsible for his only offence. Accused was lined £.3, and costs, 16s, for using obscene languago, and £3 for assault. .
