SUCCESSES IN SPORTS VICTORIES OVER OTAGO [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] INVERCARGILL, Sunday Southland had a field day yesterday In inter-provincial sports contests. The defence of the Ranfurly Shield • was, naturally the highlight of tho day, but there also was keen interest in the several other representative contests. Southland bent Otngo jn both representative Rugby matches, the senior by 03—.{ and the junior by 11 —0. Southland Won the senior men's hockey game by 3 goals to 2, Otngo being successful in the junior by 2 goals to 1. . In the evening the Southland badminton team beat Otngo by 11) sets to 18, and Southland won a hockey-on-skates match by 2 goals to 0. . , , . . An interprovincial amateur boxing contest resulted in another loss for Otngo, Southland winning 5 bouts to 3. dago's only other wins were nt table tennis and in the men s miniature riflo shooting, Southland winning the women's shooting contest.
