BOWLING

NORTH AUCKLAND PLAT INCREASE IN MEMBERSHIP NEWLY-ELECTED OFFICERS [I'ItOSI OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] WHANGAREI, Monday An increase oi' over 100 bowlers in the clubs under the control of the North Auckland Bowling Centre for the past year was recorded in the report presented to the annual meeting of the centre held in Wliangarei. Tho meeting was attended by delegates from clubs as far north as Kaitaia and s;outh to Maungaturoto, including the newlyformed Ituawai Club, which is commencing the season with 50 playing members.

A most successful year of bowling in North Auckland was reported, and, although tho statement of accounts showed a small deficit for the year, this was due to the purchase of bowl testing equipment. Tho following oilicers were elected:—President, Mr. R. B. Miller (Wliangarei); vicepresident, Mr. J. Stark (Hikuraniri); treasurer, Mr. W. C. Coote; secretary, Mr. I'j. u. Moore; auditor, .Mr. R. Kosemau; executive, Messrs. M. C. Astley, M. Edgar. C. \. Stringer, J. 11. Marwick and A. C. omeaton; general committee, executive committee, with the addition of Messrs. S. Blanshard and J. Spiers; emergency committee, president, secretary and treasurer. It was decided not to allow half-day open tournaments for the coming season. As the banner that was presented to the North Auckland Centre by the Auckland Centre is now filled with winning club names, a decision was made to secure a shield for inter-club competition. This competition is to consist of a full-rink tournament, ono rink from each club in the centre, to be played during one week-end. the first tournament on the Kaikohe greens, and the following year at Dargaville and then at Wliangarei.

It was considered that the distances between tho clubs precluded the playing of a pennant competition in the centre, as was proposed in place of tho full-rink tournament. The executive was recommended to take the necessary steps to form an umpires;' association. All clubs were requested to have the official opening day on the first Saturday in October.
