OBITUARY

BRITISH ARMY OFFICER LONG SERVICE IN INDIA [bv TKLF.GRATH—owx correspondent] WELLINGTON, Monday Cabled advice was received in Wellington to-day of the death in London after an operation of Brigadier-General A. L. Molesworth, late of the oth Royal Gurkha Rifles. He was a son of MajorGeneral H. T. Molesworth 1 and was educated at the United Services College, Westward Ho, Devon, and at the Royal Military College at Sandhurst. He received a commission in the Bedfordshire Regiment in 1901. ■Brigadier-General Molesworth saw considerable service with the Gurkha "Rifles in India and participated in various exploration expeditions. He served in France during the Great War with distinction, on the North-West Frontier of India with the Nepal Army in 1916IS, in the third Afghan War and in the Waziristan campaign. He commanded successively the Bareilly Brigade, the Delhi Independent Brigade and the Landi Kotal Brigade, retiring in 19.'J7.

During the Spanish war BrigadierGeneral Molesworth represented Britain on the international commission at Perpignan. In October, 1936, he married Sliss Hilda Miles, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. 11. Miles, of Wellington, at Landi Kotal, Khyber Pass, India.

MR. T. H. PARDINGTON The death has occurred of Mr. Thomas Henry Pardington, aged 65, a prominent citizen of Onehunga, where he had been in business for the past 40 years. Mr. Pardington was born in Birmingham and came to Auckland with his parents, who settled in Ponponby. For nine years Mr. Pardington was' a member of the Onehunga Borough Council and was a life member of the Onehunga Fire Brigade, and a member of the local fire board. He was also, a lil'e member of the Manukau Yacht and Motor Boat Club and the Onehunga Orphans' Club, and a prominent member of the Masonic and Foresters' Orders. He is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters.

MR. T. 0. ARNOLD £from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Monday The (loath has occurred of Mr. Thomas Charles Arnold, of Kihikihi, aged 66. Mr. Arnold, who was born in Birmingham, England, arrived in New Zealand at the age of seven rears with his parents. After residing lor a time nt Napier and Waipawa 'his family moved to Pctone, where ho received his education. For a number of years he farmed in the Mnrinwntu district!, nfterwnrd going to the Hanrnki Plains and later coming to the Wniknto. Mr. Arnold took a prominent part in sport in his'younger days, representing Wellington at Rugby, and winning many trophies for athletics. He held a long-service certificate of the Methodist Church for preaching. He is survived by two sour and two daughters.

MR. ROBERT HILL [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] WAIHI, Monday The death has occurred of Mr. Robert Hill, aged 76. Mr. Hill was an old pioneer of the goldfields and in tho earlv days of the Thames field was a prominent figure. Following his retiremerit from business a few years ago he lived with his son at Owharoa. He is •urvived by his wife and four sons*
