FIGURES FOR JULY LESS ACTIVITY SHOWN ERECTION OF NEW HOMES r ♦ The value of building permits issued by tho Auckland City Council in July was £50,027, making a total of £488,6-12 since tho beginning of the year, compared with £630,137 for the first seven months of last year and. £454,953 for the same period of 1937. July has been a comparatively poor building month in the city, tho total expenditure being tho lowest since May of last year. It was a very slack period especially when compared with July of last year, when the total outlay was £172,646, tho largest monthly total since June, 1929. The amount expended in tho previous July was, however, swelled by tho permit for tho new cool storo for the Auckland. Farmers' Freezing Company, Limited, on thp waterfront. Tho largest individual permits last month were for a classroom, internal alterations to a shop, a small factory and additions to a factory. There were also 23 new dwellings. In that number, however, there wero 12 costing from £IOOO to £2200. So far this year 207 new homes have been built, as against 167 for tho same period last year, and 168 for the first seven months of 1937,
