NEW PRIMARY SCHOOL
MOUNT ALBERT BUILDING PERMISSION TO* PROCEED MODERN IDEAS IN PLAN Permission to proceed with the construction of the new Mount Albert school has been received by the Auckland Education Board from the' Education Department. Tenders for the work closed some 'time ago and were forwarded to the department, which has now given authority for one to be accepted. Tho building will cost in the vicinity of £18,000., Tho new school, to bo erected on a commanding site in New North Road, Morningside, will bo on tho lines of other open-air structures in Auckland and will consist of three portions, a central block of two storeys and two single-storey wings. The buildings will face the north, and all the classrooms, of which thero will be 12, will havo folding doors, .so that the north side can be opened to the sun and fresh air. A verandah will run along the north side of the two wings. In addition to tho classrooms there will bo several cloak rooms and two shelter sheds. The ground floor of tho central block will consist of a library and visual education ' room, 29ft. by 15ft., an entrance hall and the headmaster's room. The first storey will comprise a suite for the dental clinic, a common.room for tho staff, a small kitchen and two cloak rooms.
Tlio central wing will be joined to the end wings by bicycle shelters. The classrooms will each be 26ft. bj T 24ft., and it will be possible to convert two of them into one large room by a folding partition. Tlio Education Department has also made a grant for the furnishing and fitting cut of tho cafeteria which is contained in tho new wing of tho Auckland Teachers' Training College.
