TEST OF STUDENTS
UNIVERSITY ENTRANCE AN IMPORTANT CHANGE ABILITY TO TAKE COURSES A change which may affect a largo number of prospective students at Auckland University Collego was approved by the College Council yesterday on the recommendation of the education committee in a report on the college regulations. It was decided to add a clauso stating that in general students would be required to have reached the pass mark in the entrance examination in any given subject beforo they were permitted to enter upon the stage I. course in that subject. Where the subject was not included in the entrance examination syllabus, or where a student had not obtained a pass mark in the subject in the entrance examination, it was decided that the head of the department might require the student to pass an examination in the first week of the first term to determine his fitness to enter upon the stage I. course. If the head of the department deemed that the student did not reach a satisfactory standard in this examination, he could require the student either to take two years over his course or to postpone his course for one year or until such time as ho reached tho required standard. Provision was made for appeal to tho Professorial Board. The change was decided upon without discussion.
