" WUTHERING HEIGHTS "
DRAMATIC FILM FOR CIVIC Splendid entertainment is provided by "Wuthering Heights," the powerful drama of love on the desolate Yorkshire moors, which will open its Auckland season at the Civic Theatre on Friday. Taken from Charlotte Bronte's famous novel, the film captures all ihe vigour of the book and successfully transmits to the screen the emotional tension and grim family hatred which form the basic elements of the plot. The story probes deep into tho lives of five people whose lives are strangely affected by a series of events such as only the perverseness of fate can provide, and its unusual story will grip the imagination and establish itself as one of the masterpieces of the screen, as well as n great literary achievement. Merle Obcron gives an outstanding portrayal as the* emotional and high-spirited Cathy, who has become filled with some spirit of the moors on which she has lived so long, while Laurence Olivier also impresses with a sincere presentation as the brooding, melancholy Heathcliff,- supporting roles being played by Flora Robson and David Niven. A special feature of the production is the beautiful photography which provides a splendid background for the moving drama.
