Tlio Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates left for Wellington by the limited express last night. Dr. E. 13. Gunson, of Auckland, has decided to start practice in Harley Street as a consulting physician, sav 3 the London correspondent of the Herald. Dr. G. H. Cunningham, director of the plant diseases division of the Department of Scientific and IndustrialResearch, left last night on a business visit to Wellington. Sir. W. H. Cocker was re-elected president of Auckland University Collego at a meeting of the college council yesterday. Mr. A. H. Johnstone, K.C., was re-elected vice-president. Mr. H. P. West has resigned from the position of secretary of the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce, which ho has held for nearly 12 years. His resignation will take effect at the end of August. The Hons. J. Cotter, E. Dye, T. Bloodworth, A. Burns, C. J. Carrington, J. Trcvethick, F. E. Lark, B, Martin and J. Alexander, M.L.C.'s, left for Wellington last night by tho limited express. Mr. L. K. Munro, representing graduates, and Dr. ft. G. McElrov, representing the Auckland City Council, were welcomed as new members of the Auckland University College Council at a meeting yesterday. Mr. P. K. Paikea, Mr. C. W. Boswell, Mr. A. S. Richards, Mr. A. G. Osborne, Mr. W. P. Endean, Mr. W. J Lyon and Mr. F. W. Schramm, M.P.'s, left for Wellington by the limited express last night. Mr. Adrian Seligman, formerly master of the barquentine C'ap_ Pilar, which visited Auckland in 1937 on a world cruise, has been appointed second officer of the new Royal research vessel Research, which is, now fitting out at Dartmouth.
