HEHNE BAY JUNIORS DISTRIBUTION OF PRIZES The Heme Bay Junior Yacht Club licit! its annual distribution of prizes and dance in the Point Erin Kiosk on Saturday night. There was a very large attendance of members and visitors, including Mr. W. B. Darlow chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board, Mr. C. H. T. Palmer, chairman of the Auckland Yacht and Motor-Boat Association, and representatives from the various yacht clubs on the Waitemata and Manukau Harbours. Apologies were received from the Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis, Lieutenant-Com-mander E. W. Monckton, R.X., and Mr. J. H. Frater, chairman of the Marine Activities Committee. In extending a welcome to the visitors the commodore, Mr. G. M. Dennes, stated that the club, which was formed six. years ago, had made great progress. In addition to the large number of Silver Fern boats racing in Auckland the class had been established in Grevmouth, L.vttelton and several other places. In Auckland six new Silver tern boats were being built. Fourteen races for Silver Ferns and three for the open class held during the year had been well contested. The activities of the club were strictlj confined to teaching junior yachtsmen the art of small boat sailing, and every assistance had been received from senior clubs and others interested in yachting. In this connection the club was greatly indebted to Mr. G. Tvler for bis help and advice in the building of new boats. In December last the club conveyed a number of boats to Kotorua, where racing took place on the lake, bo successful was the visit that it was the intention of the club to make another trip to Rotorua in the coming season. Mr. Palmer paid a tribute to the work of Mr. Dennes and congratulated the club on its splendid progress. There was no doubt. Mr. Palmer said, that the Heme Bay club was an asset to the district, its members should be pleased to be associated with In presenting the prizes Mr. Darlow stated that the members of the Auckland Harbour Board were desirous of doi»g more in future for the sport of yachting, which was a clean and healthy pastime. Ono had only t° witness the large number of craft afloat to realise what an important- branch of sport yachting was, and the Harbour Board was anxious to provide reasonable facilities for its welfare. When St. Mary's boat harbour was completed it would be one of the finest in the Southern Hemisphere. "It would be a crime." Mr. Darlow continued, "to allow the erection of any building on the boat harbour wall not in keeping with the general layout of the scheme, and it is the intention of the Harbour Board to erect clubhouses o« the boat harbour wall. A nominal rental fee will bo charged the clubs requiring accommodation, and they will not lose their identity." Referring to the Heme Bay club, Mr. Darlow said that the members owed a great deal to Mr. Dennes for the interest he had taken in its affairs. The fine array of prizes and the support the club had received from the residents and senior yacht clubs went to show that it was performing a great service in the advancement of yachting. On behalf of the members Mr. Darlow presented Mr. Dennes with a gold fountain pen. The most important prizes were won by the following:—Championship cup and flag, Silver Fern class. Rhythm; championship cup and flag, open class. Pal. Other first prizewinners were:—Tapere (3). Kandy Kid, Raider. Rhythm (3). Silver Fern ('->), Eiectra, Kounui (•!.), Pat and Rosalie. . . *A large photographic, album containing views of the world's 18ft championship races in Auckland last February, compiled by Mr. Dennes, was formally opened for public inspection by Mr. Darlow.

ANNUAL FUNCTION MANUKAU CRUISING CLUB Thero was a large attendance at the animal prize distribution and dance of the Mantikau Cruisinp Club held in the Foresters' Hall, Onehiinjra, on Saturday nijrht. Reference to the keen racing and the success of the combinod events held during the season was made by (he commodore, Mr. A. Insley, in welcoming the visitors, who included representatives from the clubs on the Waitemata and Manukau harbours. The patron of the club, Mr. A. J. Osborne, M.P.. was unable to be present and the presentation of prizes was made by Mr. ,T. Touhcy, commodore of the Victoria Cruisinsr Club. The cup winners were:—Dennison Champion Cup. Mere; Fearon Cup, 18ft championship, Mere; McGalian Cup. 10ft and under championship, Clyde; "Ross Points Cup, Sirona; Fearon Handicap Cup, Maia; lonian Points Cup. Waimea; Houso Points Cup, Waimea; Baker Cup Mystery; Briscoe Points Cup, Vnlrosa; Blockhouse Bay Clip, Clyde. Tho principal prize-winners were:— Yachts.—Sirona, Maia, Tuinui, Mystery, Aloma, "VVixio M.. Clyde. Motor-Boats. —Karma. Waimea, Lonara. Matarika. Minor prize-winners were:— Yachts. —Alerte, Yalrosa, F,arly Bird. Ebb Tide. Olari, Marina, Mere, Opah. Salanita. During the, season two special races were staffed for 7. class boats, Ibe nrizc-winners being Leone, Zippa, Valeta and Tamaki.
