INTERNAL ACHIEVEMENTS EXPANSION AIMS LESS POPULAR The view that in its internal administration Ttaly was to-day reasonably sound was expressed by Mr. A. D. Trend all. a New Zeal and er whose researches in archaeology take him regularly to Italy for extended periods, on his arrival from England by the Mataroa on Saturday to spend two months in the Dominion. Internally Fascism has done a great deal for Italy, Dr. Trendall said, and he had the greatest admiration for its achievements in roatl building, construction of workers' homes, reclaiming marshes and the like. Its foreign policy, tending slightly to aggressive or imperialistic expansion, was, however, involving the country in enormous armament expenditure which tended to lower the standard of life and happiness of the people. His close contact with the people in Italy had conviced him that while the administration had the populace solidly behind it in its internal policy, its expansionist programme was not popular. The Albanian access had not found «ireat favour among Italians. He also had the definite impression that the people as a whole were not particularly well disposed toward the Germans. As far as his own work and visits to Italy were concerned, he had always been treated with the greatest courtesy.
