SCHOOL VISITORS

WELLINGTON PARTY WEEK-END PROGRAMME FOOTBALL MATCH TO-DAY Establishing a now departure in the secondary school calendar in Auckland, a goodwill visit is now being paid by 50 pupils and five masters from the Wellington Boys' College to the Auckland Grammar School. Arriving on Saturday morning, the party had its time fairly fully occupied during the weekend, and the visitors were wholehearted in their praise for the success of the visit, which will conclude to-day. It was an unusually lively scene that greeted the boys on their arrival from Wellington by the early express on Saturday. Showing little sign of a tiresome/ night's travelling, they stepped 011 to tho railway platform amid hakas and cheering, and were introduced to tho boys who wore to be their hosts for tho visit. Private, billets were provided for 37 of the boys, wliilo the others wero accommodated by friends and relatives. Football at Takapuna "When they left the station, the boys went their various ways to their billets. After being installed in their hosts' homes, most of them were escorted or driven to places of interest in and around the city. The visitors showed especial interest in the zoo, the museum and the summit of Mount Eden. After luncheon, hosts and visitors met at the Ferry Building, and crossed the harbour to visit tho Takapuna Grammar School. They witnessed an exciting game of Rugby between the first fifteens of the Auckland and Takapuna Grammar Schools. Throughout tho match there was keen "barracking." At night the Wellington party was entertained at an enjoyable dance in the assembly hall at the Auckland Grammar School. This proved an extremely popular feature of the weekend programme. There was a full attendance at a church parade held at St. Matthew's Church yesterday morning, when the service was conducted by Canon It. G. Coats. He welcomed the visitors, and preached a sermon on the value of friendship in the formative stages of life. He also congratulated the organisers of the visit on the inclusion of a church service in the programme, indicating that religion as part of the education system had not been overlooked.

A motor trip over the Waitakere Scenic Drive occupied the afternoon yesterday. It was arranged by Auckland members of the Wellington College Old Boys' Association", who also provided afternoon tea at Waiatarua. The Wellington boys will be present at assembly and prayers at the Auckland Grammar School this morning. At 10.30 a Rugby match will be played between the first fifteens of both schools, after which the visitors will attend a luncheon arranged by the Auckland Grammar Old Boys' Association in the Chamber of Commerce Building. The visit will be brought to a close witlTthc departure of the party by the afternoon express. The hope that a return visit would be paid by boys from the Auckland Grammar School was expressed last night by the headmaster of the Wellington Boys' College, Mr. W. A. Armour, who . was the guest of Mr. C. M. Littlejohn, headmaster of the Auckland Grammar School. Mr. Armour said the visit might be arranged for the first term of next year, in order that the visitors might attend the Centennial Exhibition.

Masters who, accompanied the party were Mr. T. E. Beard, the football coach; Mr. P. G. Thomson, physical; training instructor; Mr. A. H. Thom, an old boy of the Auckland Grammar School; and Mr. J. S. Lomas, representing the senior section of the staff.
