RESUMPTION BY FRANCE END OF INDEPENDENCE PARLIAMENT REPLACED By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright DAMASCUS, July 0 The Syrian Parliament, the last vestige of united and independent Syria j vanished to-day when France took over full control of the Levantine State after endeavouring for five months to reconcile the Nationalist Party to the principle of partial independence. The French High Commissioner, M. Gabriel Puatix, replaced Parliament with a council of directors, directly answerable to him. Troops stood by, but the new order was received calmly. It was earlier announced that the President of the Syrian Republic had resigned.
