OLD RIFLES IN LOFT
DISCOVERY BY WORKMEN VOLUNTEER DAYS RECALLED [BY TKTiTCGRArn —OWN COIVUKSFONDENT] NAPIER, Monday Thirty Enfield rifles of 1885 manufacture were discovered in a loft by workmen engaged in the extension of tho wool store of Williams and Kettle, Limited, on West Quay, Port Ahuriri. They are believed to have belonged to the volunteer rifle company, probably some time after the South African War, who used tho wool store ns a drill shed. That tho rifles were intended for drill purposes only is indicated by the fact that the barrels arc partially sawn through, making it impossible to fire them. A number of rotted and moth-eaten uniforms were also discovered.
