RADIO MESSAGES
SHIP-TO-SHORE SERVICE Now Zealand radio stations handled 31,087 ship-to-shore messages during tho past year, according to a report issued by. the Post and Telegraph Department. This figure represents an increase of 71 per cent over that for 1936, when tho special concessions now camq into operation. The biggest factor in the increase has been tho ship-letter-telegram service. Passengers on ships in the intercolonial service, as well as subsidised .maiKsteamers, are how able to transmit -A radio message to a New Zealand address at a rate of 2s Gd for 10 words. Last year 69,591 words wero sent in this service, an increase of 37 per cent over tho tofal, I for the previous year.
