CHILDREN'S PARTY

TRAVELLERS AS HOSTB GATHERING AT CLUB ROOMS An old tradition for entertainment was maintained by the Auckland Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen's Association when its officers were hosts to 170 sons and daughters of members at a children's party in the club rooms on Saturday afternoon. Transformed into a colourful fairyland of balloons, flags and paper hats, the hall on the top floor of the building resounded with childish laughter for more than two hours.

With eyes wide with expectation, the children entered the hall. For a time they were shy, as children are. Then, bedecked in party hats, they lost their shyness in the fun of assembling on tha floor and being entertained with a programme of special appeal to the young. Some bashful and others confident, the guests themselves took a hand in the proceedings with items that demonstrated their dancing or singing ability. Party games offered wide scope for youthful enthusiasm, and there were many of them. In the community singing equal zest was shown, and the climax to the afternoon came when members of the club served tea. Sugary cakes, tasty sandwiches and soft drinks, served from real barrels, were eagerly enjoyed. As fast as full plates left the serverv they were returned empty. The association's children's party is an annual function, but. it was stated that Saturday's gathering was the largest yet held at the club. In addition to the. 170 children, about 100 parents were present.
