AUSTRALIANS' VICTORY CONTEST AGAINST MEXICO SUCCESS IN SECOND SINGLES MEXICO CITY, July 3 Although already assured of victory in the Davis Cup tie with Me.xico, the Australian team to-day played the remaining singles matches, results being as follows: — A. K. Quist (Australia) beat D. Hernandez (Mexico), 11—9, 6—3, 6 —2. J. Bromwicli beat E. Tapia, 6 —l, 6—3, 6—l. Tlio Quist-Hernaiulez match was a battle royal in the first set, in which the Mexican led at 3 —2 and B—7.8 —7. Thereafter Hernandez showed lack of resistance, and lie was worn ont in the last two sets. Quist, on the other hand, exhibited coolness, and his placements were beautiful. Hernandez's service was strong and his backhand excellent. Although his service was still below par, Bromwich's game generally was too strong and acc.urate for Tapia, who was occasionally brilliant at the net. The attendance was 2500.
