COLLISION WITH TREE
CAE BURSTS INTO FLAMES
MAN AND DAUGHTER HURT PROMPT RESCUE EFFECTED [BY TELEGRAPH OWN COBRESPON'DENT] WAIPUKURAU, Sunday A Gisborne man and his daughter were injured when a motor-car burst into flames after striking a tree at the side of the main road near Takapau yesterday. The injured persons were: — Miss Florence Morice, driver of the car; injuries to face and legs. Condition not serious. Mr. G. H. Morice. of Tahnnga, Gisborne; fracture of the right leg, and face wound. Condition not serious. Both were removed to the Waipukurnu Hospital. The car was travelling from Dannevirke to Gisborne. It appeared to get out of control. After a swervo across the road and along the grass for soinc distance the car ripped through a fence and struck with considerable force a large tree on the roadside. Flames appeared immediately from the front of the car.
Motorists travelling behind stopped and hurriedly pulled the occupants out of the burning car. A man working in a near by paddock also assisted. Mud was used to quell the flames in the car.
