SAINT MUSK WINS

PARK STEEPLES

TE AWAMUTU RESULTS STAKES TO MAORI SONG SEVERAL GOOD DIVIDENDS THREE OF DOUBLE FIGURES Three each-way favourites. British Nation, Lady England and Besiege, were successful at the Waipa Racing Club's Winter Meeting at To Awnmutu on Saturday, hut there were some good dividends, Gadger, Hutana and Erlick all paying double figures. Having his first run at a mile and a-quarter, Maori Song, who was third in demand on both machines, won the Woodstock Stakes from Golil Vaals and Gay Hose. Tho second ami third placings were afterward reversed by the stewards owing to Gold Vaals interfering with Gay Rose near the finish The W. G. Park Steeplechase was won by Saint Musk from Pyrenees and Biform, and Besiege was victorious in the Patcrangi Handicap. Except for one shower, the weather Vas fine but the conditions underfoot were very damp owing to heavy rain through the week affecting the newlymade ground near the stands and by tho totalisator. The course was heavy. Tho totalisator handled £34,158, compared with 1'11,058 10s last year, when the meeting was held at Te Ha pa, a decrease ot' £O9OO 10s. Where not specified, the gallops took place on the plough, which was in good order. On the course proper, Iddo and Padishah were schooled over country at a solid pace. The exhibition was first-class, with Iddo jumping a little the better Padishah, who has been blowing heavily after extended work, was galloped two furlongs after taking the last fence and he pulled up lame, but after cooling off he walked more freely Tho well-bred Tigreterre, who ran a creditable race in the Hawkc's Bay Hurdles, schooled very well over eight hurdles. He is in the Oringi Hurdles at the Dannevirke Hunt meeting. Sir Nigel was going slightly better than Rcipar and Inheritance at the end of a round on the grass, run in 1.45 2-5. The distance is about threequarters of a chain over a mile. Coil and Blue Tiger were given a solid working gallop over a mile, both hitting out freely. The latter is an interesting contestant in the Dannevirke Hunt Cup. Tideway Promising Novice Tideway, who has done well since running second to Areas at Hastings, was not extended to complete half a mile in 52 2-5s He will be well fancied for the Takapau Novice Race on Saturday Laughing Song, with a stone the better of the weights, beat Lindrum over .six furlongs in 1.19 •5-5.

Hade Selassie, who has been working very well of late was going more strongly than The Ring after travelling once round on the grass in 1.4G 2-5

Eiottra and Hunting Moments were not out to make time in recording 1.9 for the last five of six furlongs, while Mars.vas took 53s for the last four furlongs of his gallop. Although Greenore finished ahead ol Le Toquet over a round in 1.<).'5 on the plough, the latter was going the better Yogi and Hunting Moments were not troubled in recording o.'i 2-5s for half a mile.

Wvkemis! completed two solid rounds and. all going well, ho will be one of the partv leaving here for Trentham

Hallev and Kathbella Hnllo> made light work of his gal lop registering 5Ms tor the last halfmile Knthhella his stablemate. who lias 'lone very little last, work, was onl.v at top speed for the lasl furlotin of five run m 1.0 Carrying about 8.0. Centrepoise rati sis furlong* in 1.17 2-5. This was a vei'v good gallop, but his Wellington engagements may not be continued, as lie is a lightly-built three-year-old. •Joiirnet has been off the tracks for a few days, suffering with a poisoned leg. A 10. Lord lias been engaged to ride Power Chief in the Wellington Steeplrha.se. A daily visitor to the Hastings tracks is Essex.
