COUNTRY ELECTORAL QUOTA
Foars during tlio last election campaign that the country electoral quota was to l»o interfered with had their parallel 00 years ago, when this vexed question was being hotly debated. The following appeared in the Nkw Zkaland llr.ita 1,1) of .June £O, 1889: "The country members are not going ,to have it all their own way upon the question of the town and country electoral quotas. The town members are organising and will hold a meeting on the subject to-morrow, when tlioy will consider tho steps to ho taken by their party. Some country members claim they can beat the town members by two to one, while others not so sanguine count on having a majority of about ten. A nood deal will depend on the attitude of the Government on the question."-
