HEAVY RAINFALL
FLOODING AT WANGANUI DAMAGE DONE IN SHOPS RIVER AND CREEKS RISING [BY TELEGRAPH—OWN CORRESPONDENT] WANGANUI, Friday The heaviest rain in Waiiganui this year commenced at five, o'clock this evening and continued for more thaa an hour. The water channels were u n . able to cope with the rush of water and in the low-lying portions of the city the whole-width of roadways were covered for long distances. Minor flooding occurred in* the suburbs and pedestrians were driven to take refuge in shop doorways, where they waited patiently for the water to recede. Water entered some city shops and damage was done to stocks. The Wanganui River is rising, while I creeks in the district are running at flood level.
