CHANCE FOR RYETOWN WINTER STAKES HORSES LAND RAID IN GOOD TRIM [BV TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] CIIRISTCHURCH, Friday Engaged in the Winter Stakes at Ash burton to-morrow is the four-year-old gelding Ryetown, by Lord Warden from Sweet Smile, dam of Polydora and Giggleswick. Ryetown has had two unplaced performances, and was sold a few months back by Mr. Or. Hull to Mr. R/ Adamson, whose colours ho will carry for the lirst time to-morrow. Ryetown has been galloping well of late and may be prominent. Ruapehu, another candidate for the Winter Stakes, is a two-year-old filly by Myosotis from Karioi, by Thespian, aiid is trained by l'\ 1). Jones for Messrs. J. and M. Kennedy, of Taihape. She has not been long in serious work, and is not likely to be troublesome. Jones also has Trasimene, by Shambles from Loch Tava, dam of Pink Robo, in the same race. Trasi/neno may not be at his best yet awhile. Sir Gladsome, who is also a candidate for the Winter Stakes, has had four races, the latest at Greymouth last Saturday, when he was one of the leaders for five furlongs. Sir Gladsome is bv Centrepiece from Cauakin, by All Red, and may be seen to more advantage to-morrow. The Wrecker will race at Ashburton in the interests of his new owners, Messrs. J. L. and S. L. Holmes, of Riccarton, and will be handed over after the meeting to l«\ Holmes, who proposes to try him as a hurdler. If Garonne could be relied 14.1011 to do his best, he would have bright prospects of winning the Moreton Hack Handicap at Ashburton. Land Raid should Appreciate his light weight in the Maronan Handicap niter what he has been asked to carry at the West Coast meetings. He will luivo a track to suit him and, as ho indicated by his sprint yesterday that all is well with him, he will not be overlooked.
