"I AM POISONED"
DISTRESS TELEPHONE CALL An operator on duty at a London telephone exchange, who took a call from a public call box in Camberwell early on a recent morning, heard a girl's voice say: "1 am poisoned." The operator kept the girl in conversation while he signalled to his colleague. The second operator immediately informed Scotland Yard, who, in turn, flashed a radio message to a wireless ear cruising in the Camberwell district. Within three minutes of the original telephone call the police-car arrived at the telephone box, in which they found a 17-year-old girl on the point of collapse. Tho girl, who was later found to be Miss Doris Tubb, of Lewisham, was taken to St. Giles' Hospital, Camberwell, where doctors were soon able to relieve her suffering. A victim of influenza she had taken an overdose of tablets.
