LEAGUE OF MOTHERS
The annual "fathers' night" of the Ponsonby branch of the League of Mothers was held recently and was presided over by Mrs. S. O. English. Guests of the evening included Canon W. W. Ayerill and Mrs. Averill, the l'ev. ,J. W. .Milne and .Mrs. Milne and representatives from several branches. An interesting address was given by Mr. H. M. Algie on "The British Empire." Delightful solos and duets were contributed by Mrs. de -Berg, and Mrs. Elsie Bell-Booth, whose accompaniments on the piano were played by Mrs. Reginald Heed. Elocutionary items were given by Miss Dunham and humorous items by Mr. Einlavson. Mouth-organ solos wore played by Mr. Broadribb. Bouquets were presented to the lady performers. Supper was served by members of the committee. Mount Albert. —The June meeting of the branch took the form of a "fathers' night." Mrs. M. Turner presided. The thought for the month was given by Mrs. Batkin. Pianoforte duets were played by Mrs. I*'. Meßride and Mrs. Tate, and a short sketch entitled "Spring Air" was given by Mrs. Batkin. Mrs. Browne and Mrs. Hayhow, under the direction of Mrs. Becroft. An address describing her travels in England, accompanied by lantern slides, was given by Mrs. Parker. Hostesses were Mrs. H. Turner and Mrs. Mann. W'estmerc.—The first anniversary of the West mere branch of the league was celebrated with a party. Mrs. George presided. Pianoforte solos were played by Mrs, Cook; vocal solos were contributed by Mrs. Coghlan, Mrs. Kisher and Mrs. Osborne; and elocutionary items by Miss .lean Douglas. An address was given by Mrs. M. Harvey Turner. The birthday cake was cut by Mrs. S. O. English.
