DRAINAGE SCHEME
THE METROPOLITAN AREA FURTHER CONFERENCE SOUGHT At tlio request of the Auckland and Suburban Drainage Board, the Mount Albert Borough Council, at a meeting last night, reviewed the question of resubmitting to Parliament, in amended form, the bill dealing with the proposed comprehensive scheme of drainage for the Auckland metropolitan district. The following resolutions were passed by the council: — "That this council is of the opinion that a further conference of local bodies' representatives be convened by the Auckland Drainage Board, and at such conference an invitation be extended to experts who are opposed to the Brown's Island schemo to state their objections, and alternative pro*)o"That whatever scheme is adopted, this council is of opinion that the raising of loans for the purpose of carrying out the work should be subject to the sanction of tho ratepayers, or alternatively, that a maximum amount to be expended in any one year on tlio work should be determined m advance and included as a provision of the n further motion that the Drainage Board should bo elected on a popular franchise and not bo an appointed board was lost. ,
