ROTA EXHIBITION

WAIKATO SOCIETY OF ARTS PRIVATE VIEW HELD MANY GUESTS PRESENT [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Tuesday There was a large attendance of members of the Waikato Society of Arts and their guests in tho Bledisloc Hall last evening, when a private view of tho paintings in the fourth Rota Exhibition was held. The speaker for tho evening, tlie Dean of Hamilton, the Very Rev. T. P. Weatherhog, was introduced by the president of the society, Mr. J. Treloar. Mr. Treloar paid a tribute to the work for tho society of Mrs. Douglas Seymour, a member of the council, Miss L. T. Basstian, secretary, Miss V. Jackson, assistant secretary, Mrs. YV. Aubrey Smith and Miss Irene Collier. Ho referred to tho, loss to the society in the death of Mrs. S. Yickerv, late treasurer. In declaring tho exhibition open, Dean Weatherhog deplored the lack of interest in art in New Zealand, and urged the society to do its best toward filling the need for greater appreciation.
