HIGH WIND PREVAILS THREE POWER FAILURES RISE IN WAIHOU RIVER [by telegraph OWN correspondent] TE AEOHA, Tuesday A storm in and around Te Aroha yesterday was marked by heavy rain driven before high westerly winds, which reached a force of 40 miles an hour at times. Strong gusts uprooted several trees on the mountain reserve. Power failures occurred three times within two hours early last evening, services being interrupted for periods of up to 25 minutes. Rain in the back country was indicated by a rise of about a foot in the height of the Waihou River. FLOODING AT TE PUKE WATER OVER MAIN ROAD [by telegraph —own correspondent] TE PUKE, Tuesday Incessant rain in the last 24 hours has caused flooding in some low r lving areas around Te Puke. The Waiari Stream and the Kaituna River have both overflowed, while water is over the main road at Papamoa. A total of 4.66 in. of rain has fallen in the past 24 hours. HEAVY FALL OF RAIN NEARLY AN INCH AT HAMILTON [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Tuesday One of the heaviest falls of rain this year was experienced in Hamilton for the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. to-day, when .98in. of rain was recorded. This brings the total fall for June to 3.79 in., compared with the average for the month of 5.19 in. When the rain abated slightly last evening a strong wind followed, the sudden gusts sweeping foliage from hedges and gardens. No damage was caused to power or telephone lines. The weather cleared to-day, the sky remaining overcast.

The registration for the 24 hours ended 9 a_.m. today was 3.80 in. Following a heavy shower this afternoon the sun shone strongly and temperatures were unusually high for this time of the year.
