DAMAGE TO RUDDER
WAIOTAHI HELPED TO POET OTHER VESSELS DELAYED WEATHER ON EAST COAST [by telegraph —OWN correspondent] TAURANGA, Sunday When on a voyage last week from Auckland to Opotiki, a rudder blade on the Northern Company's motor-vessel Waiotalii became unfastened off the Raurimu Rocks, opposite Matata. Unable to enter Opotiki because of unfavourable weather, the Waiotahi remained off shore and was later met by the same company's motor-vessel Toa, which had been also kept at sea when unable to enter Whakatane with Auckland cargo. The Waiotahi was assisted by the Toa into Tauranga, where the vessels arrived yesterday morning. After being beached for the rudder blade to be refastened, the Waiotahi left later for Opotiki. As conditions on the coast have moderated the Waiotahi and the Toa are expected to enter their East Coast destinations tomorrow morning.
Rough weather on the coast was responsible for a delay in the arrival here of the Watchlin Line motor-ship Port Whangarei, which arrived yesterday morning after a long voyage of about three and a-half days on the journey of 600 miles from Lyttclton.
