Times: 2m 525, 2m 52 l-ss. 2in 535. / ADAMS CUP VICTOR CAREER OF TJENUKTJ LUCKY PURCHASE FOR OWNER EARNINGS NOW TOTAL £1720 BY ABAYDOS Uenuku, winner of the Adams Memorial Handicap, in the race record time of 4.39, was a weakling when acquired by R. A. McMillan as a rising two-year-old. He was bred by Mr. E. L. Breed, who is also the breeder of Derby Lynn. Ciinmaron,. Bingen Crest, (Worthy Crest, dam of Hillcrest, and William Direct, all products of the good mare Edna. William Direct, by Hey do Oro, was foaled the same season as Uenuku, by Rey de Oro from Bicolour, and it was with a view to purchasing him that McMillan first approached Mr. Breed. However, the price was considered too high, and as tho Bicolour gelding was at a much lower figure, McMillan took him instead of William Direct. That McMillan has no cause to regret his choice is evidence by the line record of Uenuku, who has won seven races, and been six times second for £1720, and two cups, valued at £SO and £25 respectively. As ho is only in his second season of racing Uenuku has done very well. He gained his first success at Cambridge last season, and, after missing a place in the Great Northern Trotting Derby, registered a sensational performance to win the Richmond Handicap at Kpsom. A bad break sent him back last, but with a rare burst of speed he came round the field to victory. Having his first race at two miles at Thames, he just failed to concede Our War 12 yards, going 4.33 3-5 oil' -1.19. The same day ho was beaten by Adversity, who was in receipt of 48 yards, over a mile and a-quarter, recording 2.48 3-5 off 2.57. Uenuku opened his account this season by scoring in the Parnell Handicap at Epsom in 3.17 2-5 oIF 3.34. At the summer meeting he was narrowly defeated twice by Van Derby, registering the fast time of 2.43 3-5 off ; 2.52. He look high honours when lie j won the Bledisloe Handicap off 3.27 ! to make a course record of 3.13,2-5. | Since then lie has won tho Hawcra ; Trotting Cup, Eraser Smith Handicap I at Hamilton and on Saturday added I the Adams Memorial Handicap to his . list, giving McMillan his third success in the race. Bicolour, dam of Uenuku, which is the Maori name for "rainbow," was a piebald mare by Mambrino Derby, and was imported from Australia by the late H. HBndricksen, who sold her to Mr. J. A. Mitchell, of Palmerston North, for £IOOO. She won many races, being good in harness, and saddle. Her first foal, by a racing colt, is a piebald and is being tried at Hamilton at the pacing gait. After leaving Uenuku, Bicolour died. TO CORRESPONDENTS G.M.F., Epsom.—Gay Cliou is seven years old. 'lhe placed horses in the Melville Hack and Hunters' Steeplechase at Te Ra pa in 1937 were Saint Musk, 1; Lucidus, 2; Sky Pilot, 3. Calorie won the Juvenile Handicap at To Rapa on February 19, 1938, scoring by a neck from Hot Box in 1.3 2-5.
