TEMPERANCE TEACHING
AUCKLAND COUNCIL'S WORK LITERATURE AND TROPHIES Various types of temperance education which have been undertaken during the past year by the Auckland Council of Temperance Education are referred to in the report to be presented at the annual meeting of the council to-night. Within two years of the founding of Auckland, a Total Abstinence Society was established, and it is still in existence. The educational work then begun is to-day being continued under the direction of the council, which works in conjunction with other temperance organisations nnd directs its attention specially to informing young people. With the authority of the Auckland Education Board, the council lias during the past year supplied temperance posters to over 700 schools and colleges. Temperance booklets have been prepared and supplied to youth organisations. Bands of Hope and Sunday Schools have been visited and assisted with temperance material. A banner and gold and silver medals were presented to the Girls' Life Brigade for annual competition and other educational activities have been undertaken. Through the generosity of a supporter. a substantial trust fund for temperance educational work has been established, and the council has been registered as an incorporated society.
