TRAINED NURSES

AID IN EMERGENCY MORE THAN 100 VOLUNTEERS FORMATION OF AUXILIARY Over 100 trained nurses in the Auckland area, have volunteered to plnj an important and specialised part in the scheme of civil defence as incumbers of an auxiliary nursing service. The plan was officially launched last night, when -at a meeting at tho Auckland Hospital of registered nurses the proposals were unanimously approved and a start made in the compilation of a register.

The plans prepared by an interim committee were explained by Miss L. M. Nutsey,. lady superintendent at the Auckland Hospital, and at tho conelusion of the meeting over 100 names had been placed' on the register. ]t was considered that, the trained nurses would bo valuable in leading detachments of members of the Voluntary Aid Division who are receiving training from the Air Raid Precautions Women's Auxiliary.

A number of married women were among the nurses who volunteered for service, ; and. there were others, no longer in active practice, whose training was received some years ago. Several expressed their desire to obtain experience of modern advances in. medicine and surgery in order to be of tho greatest assistance in meeting any emergency, and Miss Nutsey said she would arrange for lectures to bo given to these members.
