BOXING
CONTESTS THIS EVENING TWO PROFESSIONAL BOUTS Don Johnston, of Auckland, the welterweight boxer, who has twice defeated Yic Caltaux this season, meets Merv. Willis, highly-rated Australian welter-weight, in a special contest of 12 three-minute rounds at the Town Hall this evening. The bout is eagerlv anticipated by followers of the sport, since 'their last meeting resulted in an unpopular draw, which many of the spectators lelt failed to do Willis justice. Johnston, however, is reported to be in excellent shape for the bout and promises solid opposition. He is fully determined that this time he will prove his superiority beyond question, in spite of the fact that the critics claim that Willis will be too fast for him. Bert McKay meets Clarne Gordon in the supporting professional light-weight contest which will be of eight three-minute rounds. It is expected that this bout will provide plenlv of action, it being the first occasion that 'either of the two have fought as professionals. . . There will be a series of amateur preliminaries, which should be of the usual high standard.
