THE LEAGUE CODE

CARLAW PARK GAMES LATE TACKLING QUESTION TRIAL MATCH ARRANGED The question of late tackling in senior matches at Carlaw Park was discussed at last evening's meeting of the Auckland Rugby League, when the chairman, Mr. G. Grey Campbell, said that recent incidents had caused a lot of discomfort both to players and patrons, and firm steps should be taken to suppress these illegal tactics. "I am firmly of the opinion," he said, "that the line umpires are failing in their duty in not reporting incidents to the referees." Mr. Campbell added that ho was not referring to any particular incident in last Saturday's game.

Mr. W. Minchnm, delegate from the Referees' Association, said line umpires had only recently been acquainted with the views of the chairman, and he was certain that every endeavour would be made to assist in eliminating this undoubted blot on the game. It was decided lo write to the Referees' Association drawing attention to the position and appealing to the line umpires for cooperation.

To assist in tho selection of tho New Zealand team, it, was decided to play a trial match between the Maori representatives and an Auckland team on Monday, June 6, at Carlaw Park. The chairman said he wished every player to get full opportunities to come under the notico of the selectors, and no doubt the New Zealand League would approve of the game. It was further decided to play a competition game between Richmond and Marist on the same day.

Evidence was taken in committee in the case of a Papakura forward ordered off last Saturday, and a caution was administered. The junior control board advised that a player had been ordered off last Saturday, but the referee had failed to report the incident and did not appear to give evidence agains't the player. The charge was therefore dismissed. It was decided to forward a letter of congratulation to Mr. J. A. Redwood, president of the New Zealand League Council, on his appointment as one of Ihe managers of the team to tour England. Mr. Campbell's appointment was also referred to and appreciation was expressed by the delegates.

A letter from the National Commercial Broadcasting Service advised that at the present moment it was impossible to carry out relays of matches from Carlaw Park. The chairman intimated that the matter was being taken further.

Permission was granted the City Club to play a match at Huntly on Saturday next. Tho following transfers were approved:— B. Ormotide, Rotoru.a to Mount Albert; A. G. Osborne. St. George, Wellington, to Ellerslie. The New South wales Rugby League advised by cablegram that transfer clearance had been forwarded for F. Bell, who was registered with the Ponsonby Club. The following applications for senior membership were approved:—S. Hapeta (North Shore), W. R. Walker (Manukau), P. J. McVcrry, J. Logan (Marist), H. G. Freeman (Newton), K. B.
