LICENCES TO SELL LIQUOR ■ j, • SOUTH ISLAND REQUEST [BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION} BLENHEIM, Friday The need for redistribution of. hotel licences in proper relation to public demand and the needs of the tourist trade was again emphasised by the South Island Travel Association at the quarterly executive meeting last ingFollowing a discussion in committee it was resolved, on the motion of Mr. C. H. Clibborn (Christchurch), that, in view of the anticipated large influx of tourists and visitors to the Dominion during the Centennial and exhibition, to again bring under 'the notice of the Prime Minister, Cabinet Ministers and members of Parliament the resolution passed at the association's conference in July, 1936. This, asked the Government to amend the law to enable tourist houses in variouS parts of the Dominion to obtain licences to soil spirituous liquors, as experience showed that catering for tourist traffic in New Zealand would not be successful unless the guests could be supplied with liquid refreshment such ns was obtainable at similar establishments in other countries.
