ANNUITIES FOE FAMILY Y. PRACTICALLY NO ESTATE . HEAVY INSURANCE DENIED By Telegraph—Presu Association. —Copyright (Received May €i, 12.10 a.m.) CANBERRA, May 5 A bill to provide annuities for the widow and children of the late .Prime Minister, Mr. J. A. Lyons, was read a first time in the House of Representatives yesterday. "It provides for an appropriation of £SOO a year from the consolidated revenue to provide an annuity for Dame Enid Lyons, and a further £SOO for the maintenance, education, benefit and advancement-of her children until the youngest of them reaches the age of 21 years. The Prime Minister, Mr. Menzies, to-day contradicted a statement that Mr. Lyons' life was insured for £50,000. He added that Mr. Lyons left practically no estate, owing to his generous gifts and the heavy calls made upon him during his lonj; political career. Mr. Menzies made this statement in consequence of a protest against providing annuities, which.was lodged by soldiers' widows.
