THE LONELY PUSSY
Our neighbours Went away And left their cat behind; She searches round the house, But no one can she find.
No water in her dish, No food upon her plate, She listens in the porch, She peeps beneath the gate. Poor Puss! She meWs and meWl Beside the fast-shut door, Where no one comes to feed Or pet her any more. Poor Pussy I It mas wrong To leave her just to roam, A poor, deserted pet. No food, no friends, no home. We'll have to be her friends, And give her milk and meat, And let her sit with Fluff Upon our garden seat. We'll call her pretty Puss. And stroke her shining fur, And let her rub our legs. And purr, and purr, and purri It's nice to think she won t Be frightened any more, Or have to sit and cry Beside a fastened door. —Alice A. Kenny.
