Fashion Has a Five-Year Plan Too!
Says NIKI OF PARIS (Exclusive to THE NEW ZEALAND HERALD)
A S evening fetes continue in Paris, one is more and more impressed by * the numbers of strapless decollates, tiny bodices generally and full skirts. These fashions, launched so largely last year, were slow in being accepted, but now that women are keen about them the prophecy that such styles are here for the next five years does not sound an/ idle surmise. designer, Mainbocher, contributes many of the wide-skirted dance.
dresses thai are to be seen about this gay city at the moment. One with a black organza top, huge white skirt and bifj; appliqued tulips around the hips which the Duchess of - Windsor wears, is a very striking dress indeed. ■ Clog Controversy Another Paris stylo leader is Madame Weiller, who at a recent dinner party was wearing a gown of sculptured silk jersev which was of surprising slenderness among the host of wide-hemmed gowns. This typically slick French dress had a short sequin ned bolero, the vivid hues of which were echoed in thicksoled sandals of vivid pink with acid green straps.
With Jong evening gowns it is difficult .to check up on the slippers most
popular just now,' but ian occasional pair of clogs, usually of : gilt kid, have been glimpsed at recent galas. Now that platform soles on shoes aire an accepted fact and have already had such quaint repercussions as Dutch clogs and Washington gaiter boots, it ;is interesting to reflect that the more fanciful the footwear the less it is «een out and about. " ! . ,* It is rather at private parties that one sees the most'weird; and wonderful shoes. Hostesses at cocktails and informal dinners are wearing clogs quite a little, one outstanding ensemble being a violet" coloured tailleur worn with thick-soled black sandals that had violet introduced in the heels and soles. A very pretty blonde dancing at the Ambassudeurs 0110 night wore Sehia"parelliYhiglKsoJed silver and gold kidskin • sandals with a fluid gold lame dress.' * ' )
