"PROBLEM" CHILD
DANGER TO COMMUNITY A psychologist said at East London Juvenile Court of an 11-year-old girl stated to be beyond control, that her mental development was that of a child of five and her educational attainment was practically nil. "She cannot do the most simple arithmetic, such as the number of halfpennies in a penny. She can only read letters and not words," the witness added. "Hor conduct is extremely unruly, and she is violent and impulsive. She is a danger to herself and to others." Told that she would be sent to a special hospital, the girl went toward the Bench and asked to be allowed to go back to her own school, sobbing "I will bo a good girl. Give me a chance."
