CHANGEABLE WITH Ryj, COLDER TEMPERATURES The weather report and forecast f * New Zealand issued by the Govehinjenji• meteorologist last evening were as fol lows: —The anti-cyclone which been covering the Dominion is passing away and a rapidly-moving j* I pression is approaching from the Tamilian Sea. Pressure is high again over Tasmania. The forecast is for north erly to north-westerly winds, moder* ate to strong generally, and at tugs'-• reaching gale force about and south of Cook Strait, with a change to erlies advancing from the south orgr most of the country during the 24 hours. Seas rough about Coot Strait and in the far south, and risine later on the west coast and south of Kaikoura, but otherwise slight to m<xi. arate". Eastern Tasman Sea: A change to strong south-west to southerly winds advancing from the west and south; seas becoming rough. The weather is likely to be changeable and with scattered rains extending: from the south to most districts, but falls mainly light. Temperatures becoming colder.

SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST

FAIR TO FINE AT FIRST

The Government meteorologist issued to the Herald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Winds turning to northerlies or north-westerlies, light to moderate, but freshening somewhat. .The weather is likely to be fair to fine, but cloud increasing during Saturday and scattered rains probable later. Teniperatures moderate. Seas slight to moderate. YESTERDAY'S WEATHER j Auckland. —The day was fine with a clear sky and a light variable breeze. The maximum temperature was 63 grees and the minimum 52 degrees, Barometric pressure fell in the afternoon and recovered during the night. Barometer, midnight 30.1 Oin. (1018 milliban) Midnight Thursday 30.30 in. (1026 milliban)

Wellington. —The day was cloudy, but fine. A light northerly breeze set in during the morning -and gradually became strong. Temperatures were mild, the maximum being 56.6 dgrees. At 3 p.m. the barometer read 29.979 in. (1015.2 millibars).

Christchurch. —After a dull morning the afternoon was sunny and mild. A light to moderate easterly breeze blew throughout the day. The maximum ternperature was 57.5 degrees. The barometer at 5 p.m. read 29.816 in (1009.5 millibars) and was falling. : Dunedin. —There was bright sunshine in the morning and the temperature reached a maximum of 55 degrees. The barometer was falling sharply, however, and about mid-day the sky hecame dull and threatening. Light misty rain developed later. The barometer reading in the evening was 29.80 in.
