LATE MR. E. J. HOWARD
Reference to the services of the late Mr. E. J. Howard,' M.P.. of Christchurch, in thc ;T interests of the Labour Party was made, by the chairman, Mr. L. D. McCallum, at an anniversary, function of the Otahuliu branch of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants last night. He said Mr. Howard: was an old and esteemed member of the party, well known for his sense of v justice, and respected by everyone:. throughout the Dominion. ' - \ The gathering stood in silence as' a, /V . mark of respect to Mr. "Howard. The Minister of Railways, the Hon. D. Sullivan, who was present at the function, said this gesture would be greatly appreciated. He described Mr. Howard as one of the oldest of his political colleagues, and as a man who had given his whole life to the welfare of tho; workers, his city, and the Dominion as a whole.
